Let’s get to know a little about him!
How do you answer the dreaded “tell us about yourself” question?
By rerouting folks to https://bio.sarna.dev
What’s the most interesting project that you’re working on right now – or hoping to start soon?
My main professional project is carefully hidden under 7 layers of different non-disclosure agreements. I’m also impatiently waiting for our (w/ Cynthia Dunlop) second book to be released. It’s a practical and fun guide to writing engineering blogs. There’s a surprising amount of work to do around a book that’s already 100% written.
What will you be talking about at P99 CONF?
Databases, and more specifically database drivers. What they are, how to use them, and most importantly, how to not misuse them.
What other P99 CONF talks are you most looking forward to – and why?
Pekka Enberg’s “Patterns of Low Latency.” I probably heard all about it already, because he tends to bring every conversation down to either latency or saunas — it will be nice to hear all the information in a structured manner for once.
Joe Rowell’s “Aiding the CUDA Compiler for Fun and Profit.” I’m fortunate to have attended a few of Joe’s slide shows in person. They’re fun, but more importantly, they’re also full of condensed knowledge.
Also, TigerBeetle’s talk, mostly because those guys repeatedly proved incapable of creating bad content.
What do you like most about P99 CONF?
Forcing my future self to give yet another tech talk against my aversion to listening to my own recorded voice. P99 CONF is a perfect vessel for that.
Any performance-related resource recommendations for the P99 CONF community?
Algorithms and Data Structures for Massive Datasets by Dzejla Medjedovic and Emin Tahirovic. I’m halfway through it, and I love everything in it so far. The authors visualize algorithms with goats!
Dzejla Medjedovic will be speaking at Monster Scale Summit — a new conference by the hosts of P99 CONF.
