SESSION ON-DEMAND

All Things P99

The event for developers who care about P99 percentiles and high-performance, low-latency applications

The Tale of Taming TigerBeetle’s Tail Latency

Learn how we reduced TigerBeetle’s tail latency through algorithm engineering. ‘Algorithm engineering goes beyond studying theoretical complexity and considers how algorithms are executed efficiently on modern super-scalar CPUs. Specifically, we will look at Radix Sort and a k-way merge and explore how to implement them efficiently. We then demonstrate how we apply these algorithms incrementally to avoid latency spikes in practices.

Tobias Ziegler, Software Engineer at Tigerbeetle

Tobi earned his Ph.D. from TU Darmstadt and then joined the Technical University of Munich as a postdoc, where he built cost‑efficient, cloud‑native database systems. Today, at TigerBeetle, he channels his passion for database performance and economics into building a next‑generation OLTP database system. Outside of work, Tobi is a coffee enthusiast, so feel free to reach out and we'll grab a cup!
